Prince
Carl of Solm-Braunfels established a German colony on the Comal River in 1845
and named it New Braunfels after Braunfels, Germany his homeland. The many artisans
and craftsmen among the settlers generated industry and commerce for the entire
Central Texas area. New Braunfels is known for its financial stability because
of the many industries established over the years.
Today, historic New Braunfels is one of Texas' top tourist destinations. A
wonderful variety of water recreations are afforded by two lovely rivers winding
through the city. Residents and visitors alike enjoy tubing, swimming, rafting,
canoeing, kayaking and the nationally famous waterpark, Schlitterbahn.
Over sixteen arts and cultural organizations provide live theatre, musical
programs and art exhibits. Special events include our world famous Wurstfest in
November followed by the Lighting of Holiday Lights in the square downtown and
Wassailfest in December. There is magic in the air year round whether playing
a round of golf in Landa Park, visiting Natural Bridge Caverns or listening to
world famous musicians returning to their start at historical Gruene Hall.
